Kayaking

Kayaking on Alta Lake

The Whistler Adaptive kayaking program builds skills on Alta Lake and local rivers. Working with Don Butler of Captain Holiday's Kayak & Adventure School, participants get immersed in a paddling environment to learn strokes, wet exits, rolls, ferries and eddy turns. Full-day outings and multi-day courses are designed to build confidence and independence and create a solid foundation in the sport of white water kayaking.

Kayak instruction on Alta Lake with Captain Holiday

Participants can enjoy a mellow day on the lake or experience the thrill of the current on the River of Golden Dreams or Lillooet River. We have play boats, stable white water kayaks, double kayaks and sea kayaks, so that participants can progress as they become more comfortable on water. Double kayaks are available for beginners and those with mobility restrictions. Adaptations are made to the equipment to fit the individual’s needs, whether it's support for their core or straps to help one hold and maneuver the paddle.

Whistler Adaptive uses a cabin on the shores of Alta Lake as a hub for our kayaking program. This location houses all equipment including wetsuits, booties, dry-tops and helmets. The cabin is wheelchair accessible with bathroom and kitchen facilities available. Prices and programs vary depending on the kayaking destination, duration of trip and number of people in the group.
