The Whistler Adaptive yoga program is a great introductory course for participants new to adaptive sport. As an open and inclusive therapeutic program, yoga allows people of all physical, sensory and cognitive ability levels to get in touch with their bodies, still their minds and focus on their wellbeing. Our yoga program is open to all ages. Whistler Adaptive athletes use yoga to relax and stretch after skiing or hiking or as a chance to move their bodies with the help of props and assistance from volunteers. The yoga teachers have training in adaptive or chair yoga and are experienced in working with individuals with mobility restrictions.
The one-hour sessions start with pranayama or breathing exercises and moves into asanas or physical postures. Our classes are appropriate for beginner to intermediate yoga participants with adaptations available for any ability level. Classes are based on finding balance between stability, strength, flexibility and mental focus.
With a great community of volunteer yoga instructors and support from the Abercrombie Foundation and the Community Foundation of Whistler we are able to offer this program in Whistler and Pemberton.
