As a local multi-sport organization, Whistler Adaptive helps athletes get to the next level by providing the resources for assessment, on-course practice, dryland training and nutritional counseling. In the Whistler Adaptive Race & Compete programs, athletes are paired with the best local and provincial coaches in the sport of their choice. If you already are or plan to compete and race in an adaptive sport, contact us to discuss how we can help you reach the podium!
For intermediate to advanced skiers with a physical, sensory or cognitive disability who have gate training experience and understand the basics of ski racing, the goal of the Adaptive Alpine Race Program is to develop each athlete’s skills and ski technique so they are capable of advancing into further competitive opportunities. Adaptive racers include sit skiers for those with limited lower body strength or people who use wheelchairs, stand-up and visually or hearing impaired skiers.
During the winter season, athletes receive one-on-one feedback, video analysis and an introduction to the many aspects of becoming a high performance athlete such as mental and physical training techniques. On-mountain, the focus is on improving free ski technique as well as the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Athletes have the opportunity to compete in various races through the season and meet other alpine racers from British Columbia and across Canada.
