Read on to find out how WAS athlete Richie Grimes developed his passion for adaptive sports through our programs…
Richie Grimes was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and throughout his young life he has needed help with mobility. His parents, Richard and Jenny, hoped to share their passion for sport and the outdoors with their children, and it wasn’t long before Richie got his first tricycle. This sparked a desire in Richie, as he puts it, for “wanting to go faster and further,” and it wasn’t long before he enrolled in WAS’s Introduction to Adaptive Mountain Biking program.
Under the guidance of Adria, WAS’ Lead Coach, eight-year-old Richie had his first experience with e-assist power. And, despite the only available bike being adult-sized, he immediately took to the sport, ripping around the trails with a huge smile and leaving his coach in the dust!
Since then, because of generous donations to our registered charity, Whistler Adaptive have purchased a kids size Adaptive Mountain Bike. But we need your help to raise more funds to expand the range of our equipment to better meet the needs of each individual athlete.
Donate today so we can train more coaches to get more kids like Richie riding bikes, paddling canoes, scaling walls and more!
