Whistler Adaptive Sports is committed to introducing individuals with a range of disabilities or neurodiversity to sport and recreation by breaking down the financial, physical, and social barriers that prevent full participation. We offer 18 different sports and work across Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish. We are currently looking for 3-4 Summer Program Leaders to help us run our summer camps and lessons.
Duties: The Summer Program Leader plays an integral role in the summer operations of Whistler Adaptive. In the summer, Whistler Adaptive offers hiking, mountain biking (2 & 3 wheel), paddle sports (canoeing, SUP and kayaking), sailing, rowing, yoga, strength & conditioning, and more to people with cognitive and physical disabilities as well as neurodiversity. The Summer Program leaders will help our coaches assess students, determine adaptive equipment needs, set goals and plan lessons, lead activities, document progress, maintain records, and assist our coaches to make recommendations for future programming. They will also assist with general administration, marketing, and fundraising as needed. This position will report to the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Ability to instruct individuals in group-based outdoor sport and recreation activities.
- Knowledge of a variety of activities including; hiking, mountain biking, canoe, kayaking, SUP, physical literacy, strength and conditioning and any adaptive sports. A willingness to learn to learn these sports is essential.
- Some knowledge of various physical disabilities and neurological diversities is an asset
- Preference given to those who are currently certified in CPR B and First Aid (will include in training if not current)
- Computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft 365 an asset
- Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident between 15 and 30 years of age, as the position is funded through a Canada Summer Jobs grant
