About WAS
For over 20 years, Whistler Adaptive Sports Program Society has been removing barriers to physical recreation and sport for people with disabilities and neurodiversity, offering a full range of adaptive sports programs and a dynamic learning centre in Whistler, BC.
Today, we provide year-round multi-week programs for local residents living across the Sea to Sky, in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton, and through our partnership with Whistler Blackcomb Ski & Snowboard Program each winter we are able to extend our service to visitors of the resort.
Overview
The Adaptive Snowsports Coach will assist WAS in their delivery of their adaptive winter sport programs by teaching and assisting in adaptive ski or snowboard lessons at Whistler Blackcomb through the entire season. Other activity facilitation options may occur during the winter season. We welcome applications from candidates that also have Nordic coaching experience.
Roles & Duties
The WAS Adaptive Snowsports Coach has a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:
- Coach a variety of adaptive ski or snowboard lessons for the Community Alpine Program
- Liaise with WAS athletes and their families
- Keep daily attendance and reports of lessons
- Assist with raising awareness of WAS and being an ambassador on the mountain
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned
Working Conditions
- Part-time position, 1-3 days per week
- Required to work outdoors in Winter conditions
- Will receive initial and regular training in adaptive ski and ride instruction and ski and ride improvement
Qualifications
- Advanced skiing or riding abilities
- CADS certifications or international equivalent (minimum level 1* and level 2 an asset)
- Strong ability to adapt teaching methods
- CSIA or CASI certifications or international equivalent (Minimum Level 1)
- Mandatory background check
Remuneration
- $22-25/hr + commensurate on experience and certifications
- Season Pass for Whistler Blackcomb
- Training opportunities for CADS certifications
