Article - A look at Paralympic Classification (Swimming)

The classification codes in the Paralympics can be very complicated to understand. So, let’s have a little look at the methodology and see if we can make some sense of it! 

After a long history of classifying athletes and lessons learned in the process, they are now assessed both on what their disability is and how that disability affects the sport they want to participate in. The IPC (Paralympics) assesses a bit differently to the codes you may have come across for things like spinal cord injury, instead grouping athletes based on how it may impact fair competition.

Rules of Play:

We will be playing Texas Scramble;
 

All members of the foursome tee off from their chosen/usual tee. Then one of these drives* is chosen to be used for the next shot and all members of the team place their balls where the chosen drive ended up, and all the team play a second shot from this spot.

Let’s get started!
Here are the steps to follow to get create an account and reserve classes. It should only take 5-10 minutes. (We recommend doing this from a computer or tablet with a proper keyboard rather than a phone. It will be easier to answer the registration questions.)
 

1 Year Paternity Leave Coverage: Lead Coach and Social Media Coordinator

Do you want to join the Whistler Adaptive team? We are looking to fill a 1-year temporary position for our Lead Coach and Social Media Coordinator. If you have a passion for adaptive sport and making a difference in your community, then this is the job for you!

Qualifications:

-Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.

-The ability to instruct or lead individuals in indoor and outdoor adaptive sport, recreation, and therapeutic activities.

Program Audit Proposal

We will be completing a Program Audit over the next few weeks. The purpose of this vital work is to look at how to best plan programming for the next few years. We are seeking proposals to complete this Program Audit. If this interests you please reach out to our executive director Chelsey via email cwalker@whistleradaptive.com to submit your proposal.

AGM October 25, 2020

The Annual General Meeting for the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program Society is taking place on October 25, 2020 in Whistler, BC (location and format TBD ie. by Zoom). Registration begins at 10am and the AGM starts at 10:05am. We will hear from the President of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director and other Board Members regarding programming, fundraising and other initiatives that took place in 2020. We will also review the 2020 financials.
