Summer Program Volunteer

As a volunteer coach for our Summer Program you will be involved in supporting athletes to safely participate and develop skills across a range of outdoor sports including hiking, 2-wheel biking, adaptive mountain biking, watersports, climbing and physical literacy. Our Summer program runs for consecutive weeks over a two month period and session duration varies from between 1 hour up to a full day.

Key Dates:

June: Training for Summer Program Volunteers

July – August: Weekly Summer Program

Responsibilities:

  • Safely support athletes with a disability and assist the lead coach in delivering sports and recreation sessions
  • Assist in the setting up and putting away sports equipment
  • Monitoring the safety of athletes (i.e. being the tail of the group in hiking or biking programs)
  • Facilitating a positive social environment for athletes to build connections and have fun!

Requirements:

  • Able to be physically active for at least 2 hours
  • Able to swim in deep water (if supporting watersports programs) or ride a bike (biking programs)
  • Attend WAS training sessions and complete the online Coaching Association of Canada Safe Sport Training.
