Whistler Adaptive Sports Program Announces Mike Shaw as Guest Speaker for No Limits Fundraising Gala 2026

Posted: March 10, 2026Read Time: 2 minutes

Former professional freestyle skier to share his powerful story on April 24

Following the success of last year’s gala with Invictus Games gold medallist Assunta Aquino, Whistler Adaptive Sports Program is excited to announce Mike Shaw, an acclaimed motivational speaker, former professional freestyle skier, and incomplete quadriplegic, as the featured guest speaker at the 2026 No Limits Fundraising Gala.

Taking place on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Wild Blue Restaurant + Bar in Whistler, the No Limits Gala is an elegant evening in support of local adaptive sports programs. The celebration begins with an alfresco cocktail reception and continues with a sophisticated three-course dining experience in one of Whistler’s premier venues. The evening brings together an influential audience of community and business leaders committed to creating inclusive, life-changing opportunities through adaptive sport and recreation, and is punctuated by live and silent auctions.

In 2013, Mike Shaw experienced a catastrophic neck injury that left him an incomplete quadriplegic. Through rehabilitation, determination, and a commitment, he returned to the slopes that same winter and has continued to explore new possibilities ever since. Now a clinical counsellor and wellness advocate, Shaw shares his lived experience and insights on navigating life-changing adversity with courage, adaptability, and purpose.

“This is more than a gala, it’s an evening about possibility,” Shaw says. “When we gather to support organizations like Whistler Adaptive, we’re recognizing that disability itself doesn’t create limitations. It’s the way our systems are designed, and the assumptions and misrepresentation that surround disability that create barriers. Together, we have the opportunity to change that and truly break down those barriers. Programs like Whistler Adaptive give participants the chance to experience the power of sport and immerse themselves in the pure fulfillment we all enjoy in the mountains. I’m excited to share that message.”
